What is Simbang Gabi?
Simbang Gabi (“Night Mass”) originated in the Philippines between 1660-1670. During that time, priests decided to hold early morning masses from December 16—24 for Filipino farmers since they could not attend the evening novena masses.
Today, this tradition is celebrated in Filipino communities around the world. Depending on the circumstances, Simbang Gabi either takes place December 15-23 in the evening or December 16-24 in the morning. According to Filipino tradition if you complete all 9 days of Simbang Gabi, your Christmas wish will come true.
